Polka Theatre has been named a joint winner of the Great Community Connection award at the inaugural Great British Theatres Awards, held last night. Brixton House was a finalist in the Great New Build Category and Hoxton Hall was also nominated for the Great Community Connection Category.
Organised by Theatres Trust to mark its 50th anniversary, the awards celebrate the contribution theatres make to Britain's cultural life and the communities they serve.
Polka Theatre was recognised for its commitment to making theatre accessible to children and families, and for creating a welcoming space for the local community.
The FWS team attended the awards to celebrate alongside colleagues from across the theatre sector. Having led Polka's redevelopment, we're pleased to see the theatre's work recognised in this way.
Congratulations to everyone at Polka on this well-deserved recognition and to teams at Hoxton Hall and Brixton House for their nominations.
